Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop, maintain and test safety-critical software for aircraft flight systems at our Bedfordshire facility. You will build flight control laws in MATLAB/Simulink, deploy to target hardware and conduct real-world flight tests.

You will contribute to requirements, V&V and continuous improvements in a multidisciplinary team, with a focus on high-integrity software and clear reporting to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Essential: Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics and their impact on flight control.
• Essential: Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Essential: Hands-on experience in designing and commissioning control systems.
• Essential: Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: Experience designing guidance, navigation and control for fixed/rotary wing vehicles.
• Desirable: Knowledge of sensing systems.
• Desirable: Hands-on experience with small UAS.
• Desirable: Stateflow, Simulink Coder, Embedded Coder.
• Desirable: Data fusion and state estimation algorithms.
• Desirable: Embedded and real-time safety-critical systems.
• Desirable: Knowledge of communication systems.
• Desirable: Git version control.
• Desirable: C++, Java, Python development.
• Desirable: DO-178, ED-20x standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and test safety-critical software for flight control systems.
• Use MATLAB/Simulink to generate algorithms and control laws.

• Contribute to requirements definition and verification/validation.
