Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop and test safety-critical software for flight systems. You will work with MATLAB/Simulink to create novel control laws, deploy to hardware, and conduct real-world flight tests near Bedford.

The role demands strong teamwork, a can-do attitude, and active contribution to process improvements. Qualifications include aerospace degree, experience with control systems, and SC clearance.

Qualifications

• Degree in aerospace engineering or equivalent.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics and their impact on flight control.
• Experience using MATLAB/Simulink to develop algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: GN&C algorithms for fixed/rotary wing vehicles.
• Knowledge of sensing systems.
• Hands-on experience with small UAS.
• Mathworks Stateflow, Simulink Coder and Embedded Coder.
• Experience developing data fusion and state estimation algorithms.
• Experience with embedded, real-time, safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of communications systems.
• Git version control.
• C++, Java, Python development skills.
• Experience with DO-178, ED-20x standards.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to requirements definition and develop software with MATLAB/Simulink.
• Deploy software onto target hardware after verification and validation.
• Conduct real-world flight testing at our test facility near the office.
• Present testing findings in reports or customer presentations.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to SOPs.
• Drive continuous improvement and maintain quality targets.
