Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop and test safety-critical software for aircraft flight systems. You will work with MATLAB/Simulink to implement flight control laws, perform verification with bespoke simulations, and deploy on target hardware with real-world flight testing near Bedford.

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics and their impact on flight control.
• Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience in designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: Experience designing guidance, navigation and control for fixed/rotary wing vehicles.
• Knowledge of sensing systems.
• Hands-on with small UAS.
• Mathworks tools: Stateflow, Simulink Coder, Embedded Coder.
• Experience with embedded, real-time, safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of communications systems.
• Experience with version control (Git).
• C++, Java, Python development skills.
• Experience with software quality standards (DO-178, ED-20x).

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and test safety-critical software for flight systems.
• Contribute to requirements definition and model-based design in MATLAB/Simulink.
• Verify via bespoke simulations and deploy software to target hardware.
• Conduct real-world flight testing at the test facility near the office.
• Present testing findings in reports or customer-facing presentations.
• Contribute to the development of standard operating processes and continuous improvement.
