Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop, maintain and test safety-critical software for aircraft flight systems. You will use MATLAB/Simulink to design flight control laws and data manipulation algorithms, verify with bespoke simulations, deploy to target hardware and conduct flight tests at our nearby facility.

You will contribute to requirements, SOP development and continuous improvement while collaborating in a multidisciplinary team and presenting findings in reports

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics and their impact on flight control.
• Experience in using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience in designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: GNC algorithms for fixed or rotary wing.
• Knowledge of sensing systems.
• Hands-on with small UAS.
• Stateflow, Simulink Coder, Embedded Coder.
• Mathematical algorithms: data fusion, state estimation.
• Embedded, real-time, safety-critical systems.
• Communication systems knowledge.
• Git version control.
• C++, Java, Python development skills.
• DO-178, ED-20x software standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and test safety-critical software for flight systems.
• Contribute to requirements definition and use MATLAB/Simulink to generate software.
• Deploy software to target hardware and conduct real-world flight testing.
• Present findings in reports and customer presentations.
• Contribute to SOPs and continuous improvement within a multidisciplinary team.
