Training Programme Support Officer – Pensions

Salary: £34,434 (without London weighting), £38,752 (with London weighting)

Location: Home based or Westminster/hybrid

Contract: Fixed term or secondment for two years

About the role

The LGPS Training and Development team is looking for an organised and proactive Training Programme Support Officer to provide vital administrative and operational support to the delivery of a national training and qualification programme for Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) administering authorities and employers.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the end‑to‑end delivery of training events, qualifications and conferences, including organising event logistics, liaising with venues and speakers, preparing materials and managing delegate communications.
  • Provide on‑the‑day support to ensure events run smoothly.
  • Support the administration of LGPS pension qualifications, assisting with tutorials and exams, monitoring learner progress and working with qualification providers.
  • Manage training enquiries, coordinate feedback and certification.
  • Support financial processes such as purchase orders, invoices and budget monitoring.
Qualifications
  • Organised and detail‑focused professional with proven administrative experience, ideally gained in a local authority or project‑based environment.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft 365 and digital collaboration tools, able to manage a varied workload and work to competing deadlines.
  • Experience of organising events or meetings and supporting financial processes, with a methodical approach and a commitment to accuracy and excellent customer service.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team while also taking initiative and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, able to convey complex information accurately.
  • Understanding of local government and the LGPS, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
  • Right to work in the UK.
