Job description

Cardiff Council is seeking a dedicated Training and Development Officer - Adult Services to join our Social Care Workforce team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a skilled, competent and confident social care workforce, supporting both student social workers and qualified practitioners across the service.

About the Role

In this role, you will support the delivery of professional development initiatives aligned with the Social Care Wales Workforce Development Programme. Working closely with the Training Manager, you will:

  • Coordinate, monitor and evaluate social care work placements
  • Support qualifying and post‑qualifying social work programmes
  • Act as an Assessor for social work students and social workers
  • Oversee access to CPEL programmes for social work employees
  • Commission and support practice‑based assessments in line with Council processes
  • Contribute to the First Three Years in Practice programme
  • Work collaboratively with Higher Education partners, team managers and mentors
  • Keep up‑to‑date with developments in professional learning and research
  • Prepare reports and represent the council in regional workforce development forums
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification
  • Registration with Social Care Wales
  • Proven experience within statutory social care settings
  • Strong understanding of Social Care Wales standards, legislation and professional practice guidance
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and report‑writing skills
  • Ability to manage change, support workforce development and work with multiple stakeholders

Desirable qualifications include Practice Assessing, PTTLS/Education & Training, PGCE, or experience in programme design and evaluation.

  • Occasional work outside normal office hours
