Job summary

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is seeking motivated individuals for a Trainee Craftsperson role in Oban, Dunoon or Lochgilphead. You will gain skills to perform construction, connections and repairs across overhead and underground networks up to 11/33kV, learning safe practices with experienced colleagues.

Qualifications

• An interest in building a career within electricity distribution or wider utility industry.
• Practical or hands-on experience gained through work, education, hobbies or similar environments (not essential).
• Strong commitment to safety and willingness to follow safe working practices at all times.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Enthusiasm, positive attitude and flexibility to learn new skills.
• Ability to undertake a physically demanding role outdoors and at heights.
• Willingness to participate in standby rota as training progresses.
• A full UK Driving Licence is essential for this role.

Responsibilities

• Gain skills to carry out construction, new connection and repair work across overhead and underground networks from LV up to 11/33kV.
• Work with experienced colleagues to learn safe working practices and contribute to safety culture.
• Develop practical knowledge outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Participate in training and development programmes, including attendance at our Training Facility in Perth.
• Support network operations during storm situations and out-of-hours activities as training progresses.
• Work towards LV and HV switching authorisations, with future opportunities to progress towards SAP authorisation.
• Build long-term technical and practical skills for a career in the electricity distribution industry.
