Job summary

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is seeking a Trainee Craftsperson in Scotland (base Oban, Dunoon or Lochgilphead). This permanent, full-time role offers industry-leading training and clear development pathways to build a long-term career in the electricity distribution industry.

You will gain skills across overhead and underground networks up to 11/33kV, learn safe working practices, attend the Perth Training Facility, and support network operations during storms and out-of-hours.

Qualifications

• Interest in building a career in electricity distribution or utilities.
• Practical or hands-on experience gained through work, education, hobbies, military service, construction, engineering, mechanical, electrical or similar environments, although this is not essential.

Responsibilities

• Learn to carry out construction, new connection and repair work across overhead and underground networks from LV up to 11/33kV.
• Work with experienced colleagues to learn safe working practices and contribute to a strong safety culture.
• Develop practical knowledge and competency while working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Participate in training and development programmes, including attendance at the Training Facility in Perth.
• Support network operations during storm situations and out-of-hours activities as your training progresses.
• Work towards LV and HV switching authorisations, with future opportunities to progress towards SAP authorisation.
• Build the technical and practical skills required to develop a long-term career within the electricity distribution industry.
