Job description

The employer is Cancer Focus NI. All duties involve running a charity shop with the aim of achieving optimum profit by maximising sales. You will assist with the management of staff and volunteers to ensure efficient shop operation. Customer service, cash handling, and stock processing are the major roles of the job, building up knowledge and responsibility over time.

Responsibilities
  • Drive sales and control costs to meet sales and profit targets.
  • Adhere to cash handling, banking and till procedures in line with Cancer Focus NI cash and security rules.
  • Maintain high standards of merchandising and display.
  • Provide excellent customer service and promote best practice within the shop.
  • Implement seasonal layout and window displays to maximise sales.
  • Ensure Cancer Focus NI information leaflets are on display and easily accessible.
  • Encourage donations and prepare stock to maintain agreed levels.
  • Price stock to maximise income for the shop.
  • Liaise with the Retail Office for donation pick-ups or deliveries.
  • Support the Shop Manager in recruiting, training and developing volunteers.
  • Communicate and motivate volunteers to ensure high morale.
  • Manage and delegate tasks to volunteers and provide feedback or raise any concerns to the Shop Manager.
  • Participate in all relevant training and initiatives provided by the charity.
  • Promote donor sign‑ups for Gift Aid and input all donor personal details to ensure data protection and accuracy.
  • Process Gift Aid items with correct barcode and price, reviewing the weekly Gift Aid report with the Shop Manager.
  • Complete end‑of‑day procedures and run daily departmental reports.

Further Information

Standard hours: up to 25 hours per week. Flexible/reduced hours may be available upon approval by a Work Coach. Additional hours may be offered depending on availability – to be discussed directly with the employer before starting employment. Salary and Working Hours

Pay rates vary by age: £7.55 per hour for ages 16‑17, £10.00 per hour for ages 18‑20, and £12.21 per hour for ages 21 and over. Contract type: temporary. Hours: up to 25 per week, with days and hours between 9.30 am and 5.00 pm to be confirmed.
