Job summary

Kirklees Council in the Huddersfield area is seeking an organised and dependable Technical Officer to join our Urban Traffic Control team. This role provides technical and administrative coordination for traffic signals, variable message signs, and wider traffic management technology to support safe, efficient highway operations.

You will coordinate information, manage contracts and payments, prepare street works permits, and work with Network Management colleagues on utility works affecting UTC

Qualifications

• GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, NVQ Level 2, or the ability to work at that level.
• Experience with contractors, permits, technical records, invoices, asset information or customer enquiries is helpful, but training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the traffic signals maintenance contractor and check worksheets and invoices.
• Prepare street works permit applications and register traffic signal switch-offs.
• Coordinate with Network Management on utility or other highway works affecting UTC assets.
• Support the recovery of costs for damage to traffic management equipment.
• Respond to apparatus enquiries and collate technical information.
• Maintain accurate records and support safe, compliant working practices.
• Respond to customer enquiries.
