Job summary

AECOM in Bristol is seeking a Highway & Traffic Engineer to design and deliver traffic engineering and urban realm schemes across a diverse project portfolio. You’ll contribute from feasibility through to construction, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for safer, more sustainable streets.

Qualifications

• Experience in developing feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs for local roads and traffic schemes.
• Familiarity with alignment, drainage, pavements, road restraint systems, signage, and markings.
• Knowledge of cycling infrastructure, traffic calming, junction design, and footway/carriageway improvements.
• Understanding of TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, and Traffic Signs Manual.
• Awareness of Health & Safety and CDM regulations.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the development of feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs for traffic engineering, streetscape and local highway schemes.
• Prepare high-quality technical outputs including drawings, reports and specifications.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and client requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners and technicians across AECOM's business lines.
• Deliver assigned tasks to agreed timescales, budgets and quality standards.
• Promote and apply Health & Safety best practice, including CDM principles.
• Support site visits, surveys and project meetings where required.
• Provide regular updates to the Senior Engineer or Project Manager on project progress.
• Assist in the preparation of technical documentation and project deliverables.
• Participate in training and development activities to build technical and professional knowledge.
