Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC seeks a Battery Controls Engineer to develop embedded software for the HV battery management system, focusing on protection, state of charge, and state of health. You will apply real-time control algorithms and work with cross-functional teams on high-performance motorsport systems.

Responsibilities include MiL/SiL/HiL testing, code verification, and maintaining robust software.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related field; OR Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of embedded software development.
• Expertise in battery management systems and battery control algorithms (protection/derating, state of charge, state of health).
• Familiarity with HV bus networks, contactors, fuses, and HV interlock loops.
• Strong proficiency in embedded C and RTOS; ability to work with handwritten and auto-generated code.
• Experience with CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, and UART; knowledge of control theory for electronic systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software for HV battery management systems and related components.
• Implement real-time data acquisition, HW abstraction layers, comms, and diagnostics.
• Collaborate with controls and electrical hardware teams to ensure cohesive operation.
• Conduct MiL/SiL/HiL, and trackside testing; develop requirements and unit tests.
• Maintain documentation and support continuous improvements in embedded software.
