Job summary

Excel Resourcing is seeking an experienced Technician Supervisor to join a busy commercial vehicle workshop on a night shift. You will lead a hands-on team of technicians, manage workloads, and ensure maintenance and repair work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard in Doncaster.

You will oversee workshop operations during night shifts, ensuring compliance standards are met and vehicle availability targets are achieved. Overtime opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Essential: NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance / Repair, or proven workshop experience.
• Experience servicing and maintaining HGV or commercial vehicles.
• Full UK driving licence and strong health & safety understanding.
• Desirable: supervisory experience and diagnostic system use.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repair work on commercial vehicles and fleet assets.
• Allocate and prioritise workloads across workshop technicians.
• Complete scheduled inspections and defect rectification per compliance requirements.
• Ensure all job cards, inspection sheets, and records are completed accurately.
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve faults and conduct road tests when required.
• Monitor workshop standards, keeping tools and areas clean and organised.
• Review inspection paperwork and vehicle release documentation.
• Monitor technician performance and timekeeping; produce VOR reports.
• Support health & safety compliance and report hazards.

Role Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technician Supervisor to join a busy commercial vehicle workshop operating on a night shift basis.

This role is suited to a hands-on and motivated supervisor with strong HGV technical knowledge, confident in leading a team of technicians, managing workloads, and ensuring all maintenance and repair work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

You will oversee workshop operations during night shifts, ensuring compliance standards are met, vehicle availability targets are achieved, and overall workflow runs smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repair work on commercial vehicles and fleet assets safely and efficiently
• Allocate and prioritise workloads across workshop technicians to meet deadlines and operational targets
• Complete scheduled inspections, preventative maintenance, and defect rectification in line with compliance requirements
• Ensure all job cards, inspection sheets, and workshop records are completed accurately
• Use diagnostic equipment and software to identify and resolve vehicle faults
• Conduct road tests before and after repair work where required
• Monitor workshop standards, ensuring tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean and organised
• Review and sign off inspection paperwork and vehicle release documentation
• Monitor technician performance, efficiency, and timekeeping across the shift
• Produce and manage vehicle off-road (VOR) reports
• Support health & safety compliance and ensure safe working practices are followed at all times
• Report hazards, incidents, or operational issues through correct procedures

Pay & Shift Pattern

• £24.00 per hour for 4-on / 4-off night shift patterns
• £23.00 per hour for Monday-Friday night shift patterns
• Overtime opportunities available

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

• NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance / Repair, or proven workshop experience
• Experience servicing and maintaining HGV or commercial vehicles
• Full UK driving licence
• Good understanding of workshop health & safety procedures
• Strong attention to detail and IT system accuracy

Desirable:

• Previous supervisory or team leader experience within a workshop environment
• Experience using diagnostic systems and fault-finding equipment
• Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities effectively
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• LGV C+E licence
• Driver CPC qualification
