Job summary

RES, part of the Wolseley Group, is hiring a Field Based Technical Sales Engineer for East England. You will conduct site surveys, design heat pump systems, and prepare quotations while ensuring MCS compliance and smooth handovers to installers.

The role requires strong technical knowledge, a consultative mindset, and willingness to travel. Competitive package includes a company car and extensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Must hold Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Plumbing & Heating.
• Heat pump design and installation qualifications (LCL/BPEC).
• Knowledge of G3 Unvented Hot Water, WRAS, and MCS standards.
• Experience in low-temperature hydraulic design and electrical fault-finding.
• Consultative mindset to translate technical data for non-technical customers.
• Willingness to travel; based in East London or Ipswich area.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical site surveys, agree system specifications with installers and homeowners, produce on-site quotations, commission Air Source Heat Pump systems, complete system handovers, and resolve technical issues through remedial visits.
• Produce room-by-room heat loss calculations, system designs and performance assessments with company design tools, compile technical proposals and quotations, and maintain CRM records.
• Act as the Nominated Technical Supervisor for regional MCS projects, ensuring subcontracted installations meet MCS standards and Building Regulations.
• Provide phone-based and remote technical support, maintaining relationships with installers and acting as a consistent technical point of contact.

As a Field Based Technical Sales Engineer you’ll be responsible for:

• Conducting technical site surveys, agreeing system specifications with installers and homeowners, producing on-site quotations, commissioning Air Source Heat Pump systems, completing system handovers, and resolving technical issues through remedial visits.

• Produce room-by-room heat loss calculations, system designs and performance assessments using company design tools and established processes, with full training and technical support provided. Compile technical proposals and quotations for the sales team, ensuring accurate project records are maintained within the CRM system.

• Acting as the Nominated Technical Supervisor for all regional MCS projects, ensuring every subcontracted installation adheres to MCS standards and Building Regulations.

• Providing phone-based and remote technical support, maintaining strong working relationships with assigned installers, and acting as a consistent technical point of contact.

This is a full-time, permanent, field based role working 42.5 hours per week Monday to Friday between 8am - 5pm.

• Plumbing & Heating: Level 3 NVQ or equivalent.

• Heat Pumps: LCL/BPEC Heat Pump Design & Installation.

• Compliance: G3 Unvented Hot Water, WRAS, and a comprehensive knowledge of MCS standards.

• Technical Expertise: Proven experience in low-temperature hydraulic design and electrical fault-finding.

• Soft Skills: A "consultative" mindset with the ability to translate technical data into actionable insights for non-technical customers.

• Logistics: Based in/around East London or Ipswich, with a willingness to travel and occasional overnight stays.
