Job summary

RES-Distribution Ltd, part of the Wolseley Group, is seeking a Field Based Technical Sales Engineer for East England. You will survey sites, specify systems, quote, commission air source heat pump installations, and oversee handovers while resolving technical issues.

Based in East London or Ipswich with travel across the region, you will design heat pump solutions, prepare proposals, ensure MCS compliance, and provide remote technical support to installers.

Qualifications

• Plumbing & Heating: Level 3 NVQ or equivalent.
• Heat Pumps: LCL/BPEC Heat Pump Design & Installation.
• Compliance: G3 Unvented Hot Water, WRAS, and MCS standards.
• Technical Expertise: Experience in low-temperature hydraulic design and electrical fault-finding.
• Soft Skills: Consultative mindset with ability to translate technical data for non-technical customers.
• Logistics: Based in/around East London or Ipswich, with travel and occasional overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical site surveys, agree system specifications with installers/homeowners, produce on-site quotations, commission Air Source Heat Pump systems, complete handovers, and resolve technical issues via remedial visits.
• Produce room-by-room heat loss calculations, system designs and performance assessments using company tools; compile technical proposals and quotations; maintain CRM records.
• Act as Nominated Technical Supervisor for regional MCS projects, ensuring subcontracted installations adhere to MCS standards and Building Regulations.
• Provide phone-based and remote technical support; maintain relationships with installers; act as a consistent technical point of contact.

As a Field Based Technical Sales Engineer you’ll be responsible for:

• Conducting technical site surveys, agreeing system specifications with installers and homeowners, producing on-site quotations, commissioning Air Source Heat Pump systems, completing system handovers, and resolving technical issues through remedial visits.

• Produce room-by-room heat loss calculations, system designs and performance assessments using company design tools and established processes, with full training and technical support provided. Compile technical proposals and quotations for the sales team, ensuring accurate project records are maintained within the CRM system.

• Acting as the Nominated Technical Supervisor for all regional MCS projects, ensuring every subcontracted installation adheres to MCS standards and Building Regulations.

• Providing phone-based and remote technical support, maintaining strong working relationships with assigned installers, and acting as a consistent technical point of contact.

This is a full-time, permanent, field based role working 42.5 hours per week Monday to Friday between 8am - 5pm.
