Qualifications

  • Essential: at least 1 year in residential childcare; strong understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice.
  • Essential: Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or working towards); good planning, organisation and prioritisation.
  • Essential: strong written and verbal communication; safeguarding procedures and legal frameworks.
  • Desirable: Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification; supervisory/management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead shifts and support the team to deliver high-quality care per individual care plans.
  • Provide supervision, guidance and support to residential care staff.
  • Oversee development and review of care plans with trauma-informed approach.
  • Support daily operations and home standards alongside managers; safeguard procedures and reporting.

Job Title: Team Leader - Residential Children's Home (Maternity Cover)

Location: Oswestry, Shropshire

Salary: £37,810.22 per annum

Employment Type: Temporary / Contract

Service: Children's Home

Service Users: Young people with complex needs

Qualifications Required: Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People's Residential Care (or working towards completion); Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification desirable

Experience Required: At least 1 year's experience in residential childcare, ideally including supervisory or management responsibility

Your Role

Lead shifts and support the team to deliver high-quality care in line with individual care plans; provide supervision, guidance, and support to residential care staff; oversee and contribute to the development and review of care plans, ensuring consistent, trauma-informed care; support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager with daily operations and home standards; promote safeguarding and ensure all procedures are followed and concerns addressed; build strong relationships with professionals, families, and external agencies; support the training, mentoring, and development of new and existing staff; and contribute to home maintenance, records, budgets, and reporting systems.

Who we are looking for:

Essential: at least 1 year of experience in residential childcare; strong understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice; Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or working towards completion); excellent planning, organisation, and prioritisation skills; strong written and verbal communication; understanding of safeguarding procedures and relevant legal frameworks; ability to lead by example, act as a role model and maintain professional boundaries; proficient in Microsoft Office; resilient, motivated, adaptable, and calm under pressure; flexibility to work shifts including weekends and sleep-ins; full UK driving licence.

Desirable: Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification; previous experience in a supervisory or management role; knowledge of residential childcare regulations and quality standards; strong team management and leadership capabilities.
