Job summary

GSL Education are recruiting a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Oldham to support a Year 4 pupil with Autism. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to enable access to learning and ensure the pupil feels settled throughout the day.

This full-time, long-term role requires a calm, patient practitioner with experience of Autism and KS2 settings, plus a willingness to undertake SEND training. A full enhanced DBS and two references are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ideally on a 1:1 basis.
  • Experience working in a primary school, ideally KS2.
  • Calm, patient and consistent approach, with the ability to build trust quickly.
  • Fluent spoken English essential.
  • Willingness to undertake SEND training (e.g. Autism awareness, Team Teach) where required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with Autism, under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship to support engagement, communication and emotional regulation
  • Support the pupil to access whole-class learning, adapting tasks and resources as needed
  • Support progress towards EHCP or SEND support plan targets, feeding back to the class teacher and SENCO
  • Use strategies such as visual timetables, sensory regulation, structured routines and Zones of Regulation to support the pupil's needs
  • Support transitions and unstructured times, including playtime and lunchtime
  • Recognise early signs of anxiety or dysregulation and use calm, positive de-escalation strategies
  • Attend to the pupil's personal care needs where required, in line with school policy
  • Liaise with parents/carers and external professionals as part of the wider support team
  • Follow school safeguarding procedures at all times

Location: Oldham, Greater Manchester
Salary: £95-£120 per day (supply) / £18,525-£23,400 per annum (195 days, permanent)
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term

We are recruiting a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Oldham, supporting a Year 4 pupil with Autism (ASC). This full-time, long-term role suits a calm, patient practitioner who can build a trusting relationship with the pupil and help them access learning and feel settled throughout the school day.

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with a diagnosis of Autism, under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ideally on a 1:1 basis
  • Experience working in a primary school, ideally KS2
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or working towards) for Teaching Assistants, or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Calm, patient and consistent approach, with the ability to build trust quickly
  • Confident using positive behaviour strategies
  • Willingness to undertake relevant SEND training (e.g. Autism awareness, Team Teach) where required
  • Fluent, confident spoken English essential
