Job summary

Teaching Personnel is partnering with a welcoming primary school in Irlam to recruit a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Autism (ASC) on a full-time basis. The role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm, with a Start Date: October 2026.

You will provide tailored 1:1 support to help the child access learning, develop communication and social skills, build confidence, and achieve personal targets within a nurturing classroom environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with Autism or other Special Educational Needs.
  • Previous experience in a school, childcare, or support-based setting.
  • Calm, nurturing and adaptable approach with strong communication skills.
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant SEN training (desirable).
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism in and out of the classroom.
  • Support the pupil's engagement, communication, and participation in lessons.
  • Implement personalised learning strategies and support plans.
  • Help the pupil develop social skills, confidence, and independence.
  • Support emotional regulation and transitions throughout the day.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and adapt strategies.

The Role

As a 1:1 Autism Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a child with Autism throughout the school day, providing tailored support to meet their individual learning and developmental needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism in and out of the classroom
  • Supporting the pupil's engagement, communication, and participation in lessons
  • Implementing personalised learning strategies and support plans
  • Helping the pupil develop social skills, confidence, and independence
  • Supporting emotional regulation and managing transitions throughout the school day
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and adapt support strategies
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and celebrating achievements
  • Building a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil and their family
  • Contributing to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
About You

We're looking for a patient, compassionate, and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience working with children with Autism or other Special Educational Needs
  • Previous experience in a school, childcare, or support-based setting
  • A calm, nurturing, and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain positive and resilient in challenging situations
  • A genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • A Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant SEN training (desirable but not essential)
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
