Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant in a primary school in Tameside to support a Year 3 pupil with Autism (ASD). It is a full-time, long-term position starting September 2026, offering consistent, day-long assistance within the class.

You will work under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO to build trust, support engagement, and aid access to learning through visual supports, routines, and calm communication.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism (ASD), ideally on a 1:1 basis.
  • Experience working within Primary, ideally KS1/KS2
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or working towards) for Teaching Assistants, or equivalent qualification/experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with a diagnosis of ASD, under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship to support engagement, communication and emotional regulation
  • Support the pupil's access to learning within continuous provision and whole-class activities, adapting tasks as needed
  • Support the pupil towards individual EHCP targets, feeding back progress to the class teacher and SENCO
  • Use strategies such as visual supports, sensory regulation and structured routines to support the pupil's needs
  • Support transitions and unstructured times, including playtime and lunchtime, where the pupil may need additional support
  • Attend to the pupil's personal care needs where required, in line with school policy
  • Liaise with parents/carers, therapists and external professionals as part of the wider support team
  • Undertake all safeguarding training and follow procedures to keep the pupil and school community safe

Salary: £95-£120 per day (supply) / £18,525-£23,400 per annum (195 days, permanent)
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2026

We are recruiting a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Tameside, supporting a Year 3 pupil with Autism (ASD). This is a full-time, long-term role for a patient, consistent practitioner who can build a trusted relationship with the pupil and support their access to learning throughout the school day.
