Job summary

Academics is seeking a Temporary Teaching Assistant to support hearing-impaired students in a mainstream secondary school in Tunbridge Wells. You will work closely with teachers and the inclusion/SEND team to provide effective support inside and outside the classroom.

The role involves assisting students to access the curriculum, developing confidence and communication skills, and promoting an inclusive learning environment. DBS clearance is required or pursued.

Qualifications

  • BSL Level 1 or above is essential.
  • Experience with children or young people is desirable.
  • Experience with hearing impairments or SEND would be advantageous.
  • A patient, caring and supportive approach.
  • Must hold a DBS or be willing to apply for one.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with hearing impairments to access the curriculum.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required.
  • Help students develop confidence, independence and communication skills.
  • Support classroom activities and adapt resources where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
  • Provide encouragement and pastoral support to students.

Temporary Teaching Assistant - Hearing Impaired Students

Location: Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Position: Teaching assistant

Pay: £92 - £95 per day

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Temporary, with potential for a long-term position

At Academics we are looking for a Teaching Assistant who has experience with hearing impaired students to join a welcoming mainstream secondary school in Tunbridge Wells.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them to access their education fully within a mainstream school environment.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant supporting hearing-impaired students, you will work closely with teaching staff and the school's inclusion/SEND team to provide effective support both inside and outside the classroom.

Your responsibilities may include:
  • Supporting students with hearing impairments to access the curriculum.
  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required.
  • Helping students to develop their confidence, independence and communication skills.
  • Supporting classroom activities and adapting resources where appropriate.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
  • Providing encouragement and pastoral support to students.
  • Promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment.
Requirements
  • BSL Level 1 or above is essential.

  • Experience supporting students with hearing impairments or SEND would be advantageous.
  • A patient, caring and supportive approach.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a school team.
  • A genuine commitment to helping students achieve their potential.
  • Must hold a DBS or be willing to apply for one.
