Job summary

Academics is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support hearing-impaired students in a mainstream secondary school in Tunbridge Wells. The role focuses on enabling access to the curriculum and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Ideal candidates will have BSL Level 1+, experience with SEND or hearing-impaired learners, and a patient, collaborative approach. DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one is required. Term-time only options may apply.

Qualifications

• BSL Level 1 or above is essential.
• Experience working with children or young people is desirable.
• Experience supporting students with hearing impairments or SEND would be advantageous.
• A patient, caring and supportive approach.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a school team.
• A genuine commitment to helping students achieve their potential.
• Must hold a DBS or be willing to apply for one.

Responsibilities

• Supporting students with hearing impairments to access the curriculum.
• Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required.
• Helping students to develop their confidence, independence and communication skills.
• Supporting classroom activities and adapting resources where appropriate.
• Working collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
• Providing encouragement and pastoral support to students.
• Promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment.
