Job description

Forest House School is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join our education team now! We are looking for versatile, resilient and committed Teaching Assistants, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support across all key stages. The successful candidate will work alongside the class teacher, assisting the students with their work, supporting with pupil behaviour whilst establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs.

Forest House School provides specialist education for young people key stages 3&4 with autism, ADHD, PDA and cooccurring mental health diagnosis. Pupils may also have challenging behaviour as a result of their communication difficulties and a lack of social understanding.

Key Skills
  • A good knowledge of autism with experience of working within an SEN setting, ideally with a similar age group on the autistic spectrum.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with our young people in an engaging way in order to maximise their learning.
  • Highly organised and adaptable, with an enthusiastic and proactive approach.
  • The desire to learn new skills and develop your role to build on your own strengths.
  • High levels of resilience and compassion.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team but also on own initiative.
  • Knowledge of PBS and/or Team Teach approaches are desirable.

A full, clean driving licence is essential, as part of your role will involve transporting students on educational visits in the community. The role can be physically demanding and there may be a requirement for you working across any of our other two sites (Progression House , Hinckley and Sketchley Hall, Burbage).
