Job summary

Horizon Teachers is helping a warm primary school in Redbridge recruit a SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil with ASD. The role is full-time, with one-to-one and small-group support, in-class assistance and close collaboration with the SENCO.

The ideal candidate will have prior TA experience in Early Years or Key Stage 1, a patient and engaging manner, strong teamwork and safeguarding commitment. DBS check and references required.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, preferably in Early Years or Key Stage 1.
  • Hands-on experience supporting children with SEN, including ASD.
  • Warm, patient and engaging approach with young children.

Responsibilities

  • Support the pupil with learning in class, small groups and one-to-one.
  • Help the pupil access the curriculum and follow individual plans.
  • Assist the class teacher with activities, resources and behaviour management.
  • Observe progress and provide timely feedback to teacher/SENCO.
  • Create a calm, structured environment to support engagement and wellbeing.

Role: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Redbridge

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4pm

Pay: £450 – £600 per week (depending on experience)

Start: ASAP | Duration: Full-time with potential to continue into next academic year

About the schoolWe’re working with a warm, welcoming and inclusive primary school in Redbridge looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a Year 1 pupil with ASD. The school values patience, consistency and positive relationships, and wants someone who can help the child access learning, build confidence and thrive in class.

Key responsibilities
  • Support the pupil with their learning in class, in small groups and on a one-to-one basis.
  • Work closely with the child with SEN, helping them access the curriculum and follow individual support plans.
  • Assist the class teacher with classroom activities, resources and behaviour management.
  • Observe the pupil’s progress and provide clear, timely feedback to the teacher and SENCO.
  • Help create a calm, structured environment that supports the pupil’s engagement and wellbeing.
What we’re looking for
  • Previous Teaching Assistant experience, ideally in Early Years or Key Stage 1.
  • Hands-on experience supporting children with SEN, including ASD.
  • A warm, patient and engaging approach with young children.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.
