Job description

As a Teaching Assistant at Brick Lane School, you won't just support learning you'll help shape lives. You'll work closely with students who have a range of needs and strengths, supporting them through personalised learning journeys built on trust, encouragement, and consistency. You'll assist with preparing engaging lessons, delivering hands-on activities, and providing essential emotional and physical support. Whether supporting learning in the classroom or facilitating outdoor activities, no two days will be the same. You'll support students across a range of ages, abilities and pathways of need within our specialist SEN setting. This is a varied and rewarding role that requires flexibility, patience and a commitment to helping every student achieve their potential. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Support students with varied and complex needs to access learning, develop independence and build important life skills.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of engaging classroom, practical and outdoor learning activities.
  • Provide consistent emotional, social and physical support to promote wellbeing, confidence and positive engagement.
  • Work flexibly across different classes and learning environments, responding to the individual needs of students.
  • Implement agreed strategies and follow guidance from teachers and clinical professionals to support positive outcomes.
  • Support students with intimate and personal care where required as part of their individual support plans.
  • Assist with swimming sessions, including entering the pool to support students where needed.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that help students feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

Previous experience within an SEN setting, particularly supporting autistic students and/or students with additional needs, would be beneficial. However, we are equally keen to hear from candidates who demonstrate the right values, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to helping students thrive.

We're looking for compassionate, adaptable and enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people. You'll have:

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • A caring and flexible approach to supporting students with a wide range of needs.
  • The confidence to embrace a dynamic, hands-on role within a specialist school environment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and professionals.
  • A positive attitude, resilience and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
  • Experience supporting autistic students and/or students with additional needs would be advantageous, but is not essential.
  • Most importantly, you'll bring empathy, patience and a genuine desire to help students grow in confidence, develop independence and achieve the very best outcomes.

Brick Lane School is a specialist school for young people with autism and associated needs. We are committed to providing a student-centred education in a safe, supportive and engaging environment where every young person is encouraged to develop a love of learning. Through strong relationships and a holistic approach to support, we help students build confidence, independence and the skills they need to succeed. With places for up to 76 students and small class sizes, we are able to deliver highly personalised learning tailored to individual needs. Our experienced team is trained in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation and therapeutic approaches, while specialist interventions and therapy sessions ensure students receive the support they need to achieve the outcomes set out in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

At Outcomes First Schools, we provide specialist education for learners who need a deeper level of understanding, expertise and support than mainstream education can typically offer. We support students with a wide range of complex, co-occurring and neurodivergent needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and communication needs, dyslexia and experiences of trauma or adversity. We are proud to be a part of OFG Education who in 2025 were officially certified as a 'Great Place to Work' for the sixth year running.

We place students and vulnerable young adults at the heart of everything we do, so every day brings the satisfaction of making a real difference. We are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and young people. All applicants will be subject to social media checks and successful applicants to a fully enhanced DBS.
