Job summary

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a flexible Switchboard Operator to join York Hospital. The role is based in York, with a 24-hour service and a four-week rostering pattern including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

This Band 3 permanent position requires prior switchboard exposure; training will be provided. The post offers pro-rata NHS terms, with a salary in the NHS banding range and opportunities for development within the facilities management division.

Qualifications

• Good level of communication skills.
• Experience handling confidential information.
• Experience in NHS office/administrative environment.

Responsibilities

• Handle emergency calls calmly over the bleep system.
• Operate switchboard and internal/external communications.
• Deal with enquiries professionally, offer help over the phone.
• Update ARC system and chase information with relevant contacts.
• Perform administrative duties and manage switchboard emails and on-call rota.
• Replace pagers/bleeps and batteries as faults are reported.
