Job summary

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a part-time Telephonist to join our Switchboard Team. The role supports staff, patients and external partners by delivering a comprehensive and confidential telephone service across Trust sites.

Working hours are 30 per week, with a 24-hour service requiring rota patterns across day, night and weekends. Applicants should have telephone handling experience and be able to respond calmly, professionally and efficiently

Qualifications

• Experience handling telephone queries and providing high‑quality responses.
• Professional telephone manners and good listening skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly with staff, patients and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive telephone operator service across Trust sites.
• Receive and direct all incoming and outgoing calls.
• Pass on messages accurately between callers, operators and supervisors.
• Monitor alarms and respond to emergencies as instructed.
• Support 24/7 switchboard operations and on‑call rota.
