A leading UK university is offering a student placement focused on sustainability. This role involves promoting the Beckettsphere initiative, engaging in events, and amplifying sustainability efforts through social media and marketing. Students will gain valuable experience in report writing and analysis while participating in the recruitment process for their successor. This opportunity not only enhances skills but also supports career development through diverse experiences in a dynamic environment.
This role is only open to current students of Leeds Beckett University who are in the 2nd year of an undergraduate course that allows for a full year placement, a 3-4 year course.
Our sustainability student placement works as part of the sustainability team, delivering a wide range of work supporting sustainability initiatives at the University. Whether or not your course has sustainability focused modules, if you have an interest in sustainability and want a broader experience in your placement year, this role may fit you well.
At the heart of the job is Beckettsphere, our in‑house behaviour change initiative that champions the UN Sustainable Development Goals. You'll be at the forefront of promoting Beckettsphere, fostering teams, and organising engaging events. Additionally, you'll be amplifying our sustainability initiatives, through social media, blog posts and physical marketing working with colleagues from the University’s communications team.
Expect diverse experiences, from participating in meetings with colleagues at all levels to conducting statistical analysis. Sharpen your report‑writing skills and contribute to critical evaluations guiding the University's decisions. Furthermore, you'll have a hand in recruiting your successor, gaining insights into the entire recruitment process, from the job description to having a seat on the interview panel.
No two student placements are alike; here, your individuality thrives. Some may innovate new projects or contribute to Beckettsphere's evolution. Whether you find your niche in report writing, analysis, promotions, creating videos, or organising events, you'll build upon your strengths and discover new talents. Throughout your placement year, you'll grow both professionally and personally, becoming better equipped for your next step after graduation. Previous placement students often find their experience shapes their future career plans, going onto further studies and competitive graduate schemes. However you start out, you will leave as a valued and empowered team member.
Closing date Monday 2nd February 2026 (23.59). Please note that you will not be able to edit or submit a part‑completed application form after the closing date.
Interviews are expected to be held on Wednesday 25th of February 2026 (this may be subject to change).

Working here means you’ll also have access to a wide range of benefits including our generous pension schemes, excellent holiday entitlements, flexible working, reduced study fees, subsidised fitness facilities and a lot more.
We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from black and minority ethnic candidates as members of these groups are currently under‑represented at this level of post. All appointments will be based on merit.
