Job summary

Tilbury Douglas is offering a Summer Placement Engineer role to give hands-on experience across engineering and construction management on live projects in the North East regional Building team.

You’ll learn from experienced professionals, develop practical construction skills, and gain insight into how projects are engineered, managed and delivered while supporting teams across design, commercial and operations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management or related built environment discipline.
• Full UK driving licence, or pending by February 2027.
• Strong problem solving with a practical and logical approach.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn.
• Placement or site experience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day management of site operations to ensure work is delivered safely and on programme.
• Understand how construction and engineering works are carried out safely and to required standards.
• Contribute to setting out, surveying and engineering control activities on site.
• Support preparation and review of method statements, risk assessments and quality documentation.
• Observe and support coordination of subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Attend planning meetings and progress reviews to understand activity planning.
• Support site logistics, temporary works and sequencing of construction activities.
• Work with design, commercial and operational teams to resolve technical and practical challenges.
• Produce and maintain site records, reports and other documentation.
• Develop understanding of commercial processes and how programme, cost, and decisions influence delivery.
• Gain exposure to modern construction methods, sustainability and digital tools.
