Tilbury Douglas is offering a site-based Summer Placement Engineer position in Livingston to gain practical experience across construction and engineering management.

You will work with site teams on live projects, learning to set out, survey and control activities, while developing problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills for a future career in civil engineering and project delivery.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in civil/structural/building services or construction management.
• Full UK driving licence or working towards by Feb 2027.
• Strong problem-solving and practical, logical approach.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative mindset with willingness to learn and take on responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day management of site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely and in line with the project programme.
• Understand how construction and engineering works are carried out safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
• Contribute to setting out, surveying and engineering control on site.
• Support preparation and review of method statements, risk assessments and quality documentation.
• Observe coordination of subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Attend planning meetings and progress reviews to understand scheduling.
• Support site logistics and sequencing of construction activities.
• Collaborate with design, commercial and operations to resolve technical challenges.
• Produce and maintain site records, reports and documentation.
• Develop understanding of commercial processes and how programme and cost influence delivery.
• Gain exposure to modern construction methods, sustainability and digital tools.
• Build relationships with project teams, clients and supply chain.
