Job summary

Tilbury Douglas invites applications for a Summer Placement Engineer to join the Regional Building team in the West Midlands/Birmingham. You will work with site teams on a live project, learning how engineering and construction are planned and delivered.

Ideal candidates are pursuing Civil, Structural, Building Services or Construction Management degrees and will gain hands-on experience, mentoring, and exposure to modern methods and sustainability on site.

Qualifications

• Currently studying towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management or a related built environment discipline.
• Full UK driving licence or working towards by February 2027.
• Strong problem-solving and practical reasoning.
• Clear written and verbal communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day management of site operations to ensure works meet programme and safety standards.
• Understand how construction and engineering works are carried out safely and efficiently.
• Contribute to setting out, surveying and on-site engineering control activities.
• Support preparation and review of method statements, risk assessments and quality documentation.
• Observe and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Develop site records, reports and documentation and learn commercial processes.
