Job summary

Lift Maltings in Witham, Essex, seeks a pastoral assistant to join its Student Services team. You will support wellbeing, attendance and welfare, provide first aid, and help create a caring environment where every student can thrive.

Working with families and staff, you will maintain accurate records, coordinate support plans and be a welcoming point of contact for students, parents and visitors. GCSE maths and English (grade 4) or equivalent are required.

Qualifications

• GCSE maths and English (grade 4) or equivalent.
• Background in motivating students and promoting high expectations.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accurate records.
• Ability to respond calmly to student medical or welfare situations, escalating when necessary.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with students, families and colleagues, with warmth and empathy.
• Non-judgemental, caring approach and passion for supporting all young people.

Responsibilities

• Providing pastoral support to students, including those in 'at risk' groups, and helping create plans to support wellbeing and integration into daily school life.
• Offering first aid assistance and supporting safe storage and administration of medication.
• Communicating pastoral, behaviour and attendance concerns with families and colleagues, coordinating support as needed.
• Supporting the school's behaviour and attendance policies and monitoring patterns to improve outcomes.
• Maintaining accurate and confidential student records on management information systems for safeguarding and welfare.
• Acting as a welcoming and approachable point of contact in Student Services for students, parents, carers and visitors.
