Job summary

Sandwell College is seeking a Student Support Officer to join our Student Services team at Cadbury College campus on a full-time, fixed term 39-week term-time basis for the 2026/2027 academic year. The role aims to create a safe, positive and supportive environment where every learner can thrive.

You will promote a safe learning environment, monitor behaviour and attendance, provide individual guidance, and work with colleagues to improve learner welfare and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Recent, relevant experience in a similar role.
• Experience supporting learners in an educational environment.
• Commitment to creating a safe and positive learning environment.
• Ability to understand and respond to individual learner needs.
• Ability to produce clear and meaningful incident/accident reports.
• Willingness to undertake further training and continuing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Promoting a safe, positive and effective learning environment.
• Monitoring learner behaviour and designated areas.
• Supporting positive behaviour, attendance and respect.
• Building positive relationships with learners and providing individual guidance.
• Working closely with Student Attendance Officers to improve attendance.
• Signposting learners to appropriate support.
• Responding as a first aider when required.
• Maintaining accurate records of interventions and incidents.
• Encouraging learners to take responsibility for their attendance and behaviour.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues and following College policies and procedures.
