Job summary

STERIS Instrument Processing in Wolverhampton is hiring a Sterile Services Technician to join our NHS-facing team. You will follow an end-to-end sterilization process, prepare sterile consumables, and operate washer/disinfectors and sterilisers in a highly regulated environment.

We offer 12 weeks of training starting with Monday-Friday days, then the regular shift of 18:00–02:00 (37.5 hours). The annual salary is £25,272 with a 5% performance bonus, 25 days of leave, and access to Level 2

Qualifications

• Educated to a good general standard with demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities.
• Basic end-user IT skills to operate track and traceability IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Following a highly regulated end to end sterilization/decontamination process on surgical instruments that have been used in operations in local NHS and private hospitals, to ensure they can be used again safely for the next patient.
• Ensuring the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, surgical instruments, and equipment) by the process of decontamination, inspection assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
• Rigorously checking, washing, laying up and packing sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.
• Safely operating and monitoring machines and equipment (washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic and sterilisers) effectively.
• Ensuring that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
• Ensuring that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust’s appointed person.

Training & Working Pattern

• 12 weeks training, the first few weeks you will work on Monday-Friday at 8am - 5pm, thereafter, training will continue during your regular shift hours which will be;
• Monday - Friday, 18:00 - 02:00 (37.5 hrs per week)

What You Will Do

Access to a Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship! This is a 12-15 month fully funded programme studying good scientific practice for the Healthcare profession! It is universally applicable outside of STERIS! Completed on the job, you are given 20% of your working hours to study towards the qualification. Further apprenticeships are available throughout the course of your career!
