Job summary

South Western Railway (SWR) is hiring a Rail Operator to help safely dispatch trains and assist customers at stations across our network. You will provide up-to-date journey information, support passengers with luggage and boarding, and contribute to keeping stations clean and safe.

The role requires strong communication, an organised approach to busy patterns, and a commitment to safety. Training is provided, with a varying shift roster across days and weekends.

Qualifications

• Organised, proactive and able to efficiently prioritise tasks.
• Able to cope with repetitive tasks under pressure.
• A great communicator that enjoys working with people.
• Confident and happy to approach and talk to new people.
• Passionate about doing the right thing – nothing is too much trouble.
• This is a safety critical role and you will be required to pass a medical including vision and hearing tests.

Responsibilities

• Safely dispatch trains from the platform, ensuring customers are clear of the train.
• Provide passenger assistance, including luggage support and boarding/alighting with ramps.
• Keep customers updated on journeys via announcements and face-to-face interactions.
• Ensure station area meets quality and safety standards, including cleaning and checks.
• Be flexible and willing to take on various tasks to keep the station running smoothly.
