Job Description:

The GM Motorsports Software team analyzes, defines, and delivers next-generation Motorsports IT software solutions, enabling innovative interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and Race teams to accelerate drivers to the finish line first. The team comprises analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers working closely with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to secure podium wins in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sports car racing.

The Role:

The Staff Software Engineer will provide technical leadership and software delivery, requiring an expert level technical foundation, hands-on project contributions, solution architecture development, and experience with scalable cloud systems. This role involves shaping and building Motorsports software, focusing on aerodynamics systems design to give our teams a competitive edge on race day and inform production vehicle development.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead a team of developers to implement and maintain GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD model construction, visualization, and analysis.
  2. Design solution architectures and lead the team in implementation strategies.
  3. Focus on modern application design, code quality, and modular frameworks for loosely connected systems.
  4. Identify value gaps within the aerodynamics team and develop intuitive solutions.
  5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth delivery milestones.
  6. Manage scrum story delivery and contribute to playbooks, architectures, interfaces, build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  7. Collaborate and support team members, demonstrating reliability and self-management in delivery.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience in full stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Minimum 5 years in microservices development and 2 years in web services design.
  • Proficiency with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), devops, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.
People Skills:
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and solution creation in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong technical decision-making and knowledge of distributed, event-driven applications.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics engineering, AI & Machine Learning, VR frameworks, data streaming technologies, and cross-platform development.
  • Leadership and architecture experience, with knowledge of data serialization techniques.
  • A passion for Motorsports and high-paced environments.
