Job Description

This role involves working with GM’s Motorsports Software team to analyze, define, and deliver cutting-edge Motorsports IT software solutions. The team utilizes cloud infrastructure and software development standards to enable innovative interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and Race teams, helping them achieve podium finishes in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar racing.

The Role

The Staff Software Engineer will provide both technical leadership and software delivery. This senior position requires an expert technical foundation, hands-on project contributions, and experience in scalable cloud systems. You will shape and build Motorsports software, focusing on aerodynamics systems design to give GM a competitive edge on race day and beyond.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of developers to implement and maintain GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling, visualization, and analysis.
  2. Design solution architectures and lead the team in technical decision-making.
  3. Focus on modern application design, modular frameworks, and loosely connected system integration.
  4. Identify value gaps within the aerodynamics team and develop solutions.
  5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth project milestones.
  6. Deliver Scrum stories and contribute to build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  7. Collaborate with team members and maintain reliable, self-managed delivery.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience with full-stack application development.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • At least 5 years in microservices development.
  • Minimum 2 years web services design experience.
  • Knowledge of containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Understanding of devops, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline.
  • Exposure to aerodynamics engineering.
  • Knowledge of AI & Machine Learning, VR frameworks, data streaming tech, and cross-platform development.
  • Leadership and architecture experience.
