Job Description:

The GM Motorsports Software team analyzes, defines, and delivers next-generation groundbreaking IT software solutions for motorsports, enabling innovative interactions between GM Engineering, Motorsports, and Race teams. The team includes analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers working to ensure podium wins for GM’s NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA teams.

The Role:

The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery, requiring expert-level technical skills, hands-on project contributions, architecture development, and experience with scalable cloud systems. This role involves building motorsports software to provide a competitive edge, focusing on aerodynamics systems design.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead a team to implement and maintain GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling, visualization, and analysis.
  2. Develop solution architectures and lead team consensus on technical approaches.
  3. Design modern applications with modular, loosely connected systems.
  4. Identify value gaps within the aerodynamics team and develop solutions.
  5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth project delivery.
  6. Manage scrum story delivery, including implementation architectures, interfaces, build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  7. Collaborate with team members and support project goals.
  8. Be self-managed and reliable in delivering your part of the solution.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience with full-stack application development.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • 5+ years in microservices development.
  • 2+ years in web services design/development.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD practices.
  • Agile/Scrum experience.
Desired Skills:
  • Masters degree in a technical discipline.
  • Exposure to aerodynamics engineering.
  • Knowledge of AI & ML, VR frameworks, data streaming tech, cross-platform development, UI/UX design, and system architecture.
  • Leadership experience and knowledge of data serialization techniques.
  • Passion for motorsports and high-pace environments.
