Job Description

Workplace Classification: Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time. It requires being onsite up to 3 times per week at either our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team: GM’s Motorsports Software team analyzes, defines, and delivers innovative Motorsports IT software solutions, utilizing cloud infrastructure and software standards. Our team collaborates closely with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to ensure success in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar racing.

The Role: Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery, with expertise in scalable cloud systems. You'll lead in building motorsports software, focusing on aerodynamics systems design, and contribute to both development and architecture.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading a team to implement GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling, visualization, and analysis.
  2. Designing solution architectures and leading team consensus.
  3. Focusing on modern application design, code quality, and modular frameworks.
  4. Collaborating with the aerodynamics team to identify and fill value gaps.
  5. Resolving technical blockers and ensuring smooth project delivery.
  6. Delivering scrum stories and managing implementation architectures, interfaces, build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  7. Supporting team collaboration and maintaining self-managed delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience with full stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • At least 5 years in microservices development; 2+ years in web services design.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.

People Skills:

  • Critical thinking, user-focused solutions, and effective communication.
  • Collaborative work style with strong listening skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Exposure to aerodynamics engineering and AI/ML.
  • Experience with VR frameworks, data streaming tech, cross-platform development, and UI/UX design.
  • Leadership and architecture experience, knowledge of data serialization.
