The Team:

GM’s Motorsports Software team analyzes, defines, and delivers next-generation groundbreaking Motorsports IT software solutions. Using innovative cloud infrastructure and software development standards, these solutions enable interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and Race teams, accelerating drivers to the finish line first! Our team of analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers work with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to ensure podium wins for GM’s NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar teams.

The Role:

The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery. This experienced role requires expert-level technical skills, hands-on project contributions, solution architecture development, and broad exposure to scalable cloud systems. You will shape and build Motorsports software, focusing on aerodynamics systems design to give our teams a competitive edge on race day and apply those learnings to vehicle development.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading a team to implement and maintain GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD model construction, visualization, and analysis.
  2. Designing solution architectures and leading team consensus on implementation methods.
  3. Focusing on modern application design, code quality, and modular frameworks that support loosely connected systems.
  4. Collaborating with the aerodynamics team to identify and fill value gaps with intuitive solutions.
  5. Resolving technical blockers and ensuring smooth delivery milestones.
  6. Managing scrum story delivery, including playbooks, architectures, interfaces, build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  7. Supporting collaboration and teamwork.
  8. Being reliable and self-managed in delivering your part of the solution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant technical field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience with full-stack application design and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • At least 5 years in microservices development and 2 years web services design.
  • Knowledge of containerization tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Understanding of software best practices, DevOps, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline.

  • Experience with VR frameworks, data streaming tech, cross-platform development, and UI/UX design.
  • Leadership and architecture experience, knowledge of data serialization, and a passion for Motorsports.
