Job Description

This position involves working with GM's Motorsports Software team to analyze, define, and deliver innovative IT software solutions for motorsports. The role requires a blend of technical leadership and hands-on software development, focusing on scalable cloud systems and aerodynamics systems design.

Workplace Classification

Hybrid: Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team

The team develops cloud-based solutions that enhance interactions between GM's engineering and motorsports teams, aiming for race wins and application to vehicle development.

The Role

The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership, contributes to project delivery, develops solution architectures, and has broad exposure to cloud-based systems. The role is highly visible and focused on aerodynamics systems design.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team to develop and maintain GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling and visualization.
  2. Design solution architectures and lead team consensus on technical approaches.
  3. Focus on modern application design, code quality, and modular frameworks.
  4. Collaborate with the aerodynamics team to identify and fill value gaps with solutions.
  5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth delivery milestones.
  6. Manage Scrum story delivery and contribute to build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  7. Support and collaborate with team members, ensuring reliable and self-managed delivery.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms
  • Experience with full stack application development
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • 5+ years in microservices development
  • 2+ years web services design and development
  • Experience with containers (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies
People Skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong technical decision-making and communication skills
Preferred
  • Masters in a technical discipline
  • Exposure to aerodynamics engineering
  • Knowledge of AI & ML, VR frameworks, data streaming tech
  • Experience with cross-platform development, UI/UX design, and system architecture
