Job Description:

Workplace Classification: Hybrid. This position does not require full-time onsite presence but requires onsite work up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team:

GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT solutions for motorsports, enabling interactions between GM Global Engineering, Motorsports, and Race teams to secure podium finishes in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar racing.

The Role:

The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and hands-on software delivery, focusing on scalable cloud systems, solution architecture, and motorsports software development, especially aerodynamics systems design.

Responsibilities:

1. Lead development of GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling and visualization.
2. Design and lead solution architecture discussions, ensuring consensus.
3. Implement modern, modular application designs that integrate loosely connected systems.
4. Collaborate with the aerodynamics team to identify and address value gaps.
5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth project milestones.
6. Deliver scrum stories, including architecture, interfaces, and deployment.
7. Support team collaboration and ensure reliable, self-managed delivery.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
• Expertise in CFD, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
• Experience with full-stack application design and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• 5+ years in microservices development; 2+ years in web services design.
• Knowledge of containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), CI/CD, and agile methodologies.

People Skills:

• Critical thinking, user-focused solutions, and team collaboration skills.
• Strong technical decision-making and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in a technical discipline.
• Exposure to aerodynamics, AI/ML, VR frameworks, data streaming, cross-platform development, UI/UX design, leadership, and system architecture.
