Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our team within NELFT. We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated individual to join our friendly department as part of our band 6 rotation scheme on a permanent basis.

Rotations include H&N Cancer, Inpatient Stroke Rehab, Neurology, and Voice/Dysphagia.

The post holder will work within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy team and have the opportunity to provide an effective service to patients across NELFT community sites, including the London boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a great opportunity to gain new skills and experience, and work in an exciting and dynamic team. They will be working with adults experiencing a range of acquired disorders of communication and/orswallowing. They will work closely with other MDT staff to ensure holistic patient care. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently as well as part of a team and have good time management and prioritisation skills.

Adult Speech and Language Therapy are a respected and integrated part of the multidisciplinary team, with a positive record of developing innovative and patient centred services. The service runs weekly community videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics, and a monthly joint voice/swallowing clinic with ENT. The team pioneered a student supported Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Programme and were highly commended in the HSJ awards for their development of community laryngectomy care. The team is supporting clinical research projects and collaborating with local system partners to improve communication accessibility of services. CPD is actively supported through regular clinical supervision with senior speech and language therapists, appraisals and excellent training opportunities. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in service development initiatives.

About us

Starting with Us

NELFT places great importance on new starters being properly welcomed into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend several drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part time).
