Job Title: Specialist Biomedical Scientist–Blood Transfusion and Haematology

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week between 0730 -2100hrs. Plus some Weekend work.

Location: HCA Laboratories - Shropshire House, 10a Capper St, London WC1E 6JA

We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.

Job Description

As a Biomedical Scientist in Transfusion/Haematology you will be responsible for the speedy and accurate processing of routine tests in both departments including group and save samples, the interpretation and validation of results including antibody panels, crossmatching, red cell phenotyping, full blood counts, coagulation, blood films, haemoglobinopathy screening, malaria parasites, G6PD screening, and Glandular Fever Screens. You will be expected to assist the department Head and Senior Biomedical Scientists in Transfusion and Haematology as required. You will also be expected to participate in a multi-disciplinary analytical role within Blood Sciences enabling the provision of a comprehensive 24-hour pathology service for laboratory users.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Speedy and accurate processing of samples
• Interpretation, validation and timely reporting of results
• Monitor and enter results from referral laboratories
• Participate in the Transfusion + Haematology Week End Rota
• Deal with telephone enquires
• Assist Section Leader and BMS 3 / 2 with the day to day running of Transfusion Sections
• Ensure equipment is maintained and working correctly
• Stock control and rotation
