As a Hairdressing Assessor/Coach you will be required to deliver practical aspects of the vocational programmes and apprenticeships. You will provide on‑going support, coaching and guidance to individual learners and apprentices, utilising resource packages and on‑going assessment. You will need to be qualified to at least level 3 within Hairdressing and hold an assessor qualification.
You will be a highly self‑motivated, energetic and driven individual, encompassing a strong sense of autonomy. You will possess strong presentation and communication skills and be able to demonstrate achievement of targets.
The post carries up to 1250 assessing hours per annum for a full‑time position (pro rata for part‑time).

2. The Post
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- a) Assess individual learner’s and apprentice’s competence, behaviours, knowledge and understanding according to college and awarding body assessment criteria.
- b) Help internally verify the assessment process according to West Nottinghamshire College and Awarding Organisation guidelines.
- c) Rectify any identified weaknesses arising from quality assurance activities including through ‘scorecard reviews’ and ensure improved positive impact on learners’ outcomes.
- d) Through individual coaching and guidance, enable individual learners to improve their practical skills and understand how relevant theory underpins their industry‑specific and practical skills development.
- f) To communicate with fellow work colleagues including providing relevant information for the programme area lead and head of department.
- g) To comply with procedures for reporting and monitoring of individual learner’s attendance, retention, progress and achievement.
- h) To upskill and take up continuous professional development opportunities to improve practice.
- i) To conduct initial, formative and summative individual assessments and track progress timely for all learners and support apprentices with end‑point assessments.
- j) To support and challenge individual learners through the recording, tracking, documenting, portfolio building of their progress. To set, monitor and review individual learners’ Individual Learning Plans against their agreed targets.
- j) To help develop best practice in coaching and assessment ensuring standardisation and continuous improvement. To include the use of electronic and paper‑based portfolios and learning materials. Contribute to the development of best practice assessment and coaching learning materials.
- k) To work flexibly as directed by the line manager.
- l) To attend curriculum area team meetings and cross‑college meetings when required.
- m) To liaise with other work colleagues and the programme area lead and the head of department and complete necessary documentation as required.
- n) To help develop best practice in delivery including electronic and paper‑based portfolios and learning materials. Contribute to the development of learning materials uploaded to the College Virtual Learning Environment.
- o) To communicate with employers and carry out apprenticeship reviews, setting targets to ensure timely completion.
