Job summary

Aspire People seek experienced SENCOs to coordinate SEND provision across Birmingham and surrounding areas. You will support pupils with diverse needs in mainstream or SEND settings, coordinating staff and resources to ensure effective, inclusive education.

The role requires knowledge of SEND legislation and strong collaboration with school leaders, families and external professionals to improve outcomes for pupils with SEND.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in SENCO or SEND leadership/coordination role.
• Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, Code of Practice and inclusive practice.
• Experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.

Responsibilities

Reports to: Headteacher / Senior Leadership Team

Salary: £150 - £250 per day, dependent on experience and role

Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time / Long-term / Temporary

Working Hours: School hours, dependent on setting

Job Overview:

We are currently seeking experienced and dedicated SENCOs to work across a range of schools and educational settings in Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

These opportunities may be based within mainstream primary or secondary schools, specialist SEND settings, or alternative provision, supporting pupils with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities.

As a SENCO, you will play a key role in coordinating SEND provision, supporting staff and working closely with pupils, families and external professionals to ensure children and young people receive appropriate support to meet their individual needs.

We are looking for SENCOs who are passionate about inclusive education, have a strong understanding of SEND, and can work effectively with school leaders and wider support networks to improve outcomes for pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership and Coordination: Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school or setting, promoting a consistent and inclusive approach.
• Assessment and Identification: Support the identification and assessment of pupils with additional needs, ensuring appropriate support and interventions are put in place.
• SEND Support Plans: Develop, review and monitor appropriate plans, targets and strategies to support individual pupils.
• Staff Support and Training: Provide guidance to teachers, teaching assistants and wider staff on effective strategies for supporting pupils with SEND.
• Interventions and Resources: Coordinate appropriate interventions, resources and specialist support to meet individual needs.
• Collaboration: Work closely with parents, carers, external agencies, local authorities and other professionals involved in supporting pupils.
• Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor pupil progress and the effectiveness of SEND provision, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and contributing to relevant reports and reviews.
• EHCP Coordination: Where applicable, support the implementation, review and monitoring of EHCP provision and outcomes.
• Inclusive Practice: Promote a positive culture of inclusion, ensuring pupils with SEND are supported to access learning and participate fully in school life.
• Safeguarding: Ensure SEND provision operates within the school's safeguarding policies and wider statutory responsibilities.

Key Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience working in a SENCO or SEND leadership/coordination role.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive practice.
• Experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.
• Strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate provision effectively.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and external professionals.
• A proactive and solution-focused approach to identifying and addressing barriers to learning.
• A compassionate and pupil-centred approach to SEND provision.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school leadership and support team.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

• Relevant SENCO/SEND leadership qualification or recognised training.
• Experience coordinating EHCPs, annual reviews and SEND support plans.
• Experience working with external agencies and multidisciplinary professionals.
• Experience across different phases or educational settings.
• Knowledge of a range of SEND, including autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, dyslexia, learning disabilities, SEMH and physical or sensory needs.
• Experience supporting staff through training, coaching or professional development.
