The role is dedicated to SENCO leadership with no class teaching, focusing on coordinating SEND provision and liaising with families and external agencies.

The school has approximately 670 pupils, is rated Good by Ofsted, and actively delivers SEND Support and EHCP provision; interviews are being scheduled ASAP.

Qualifications

  • QTS completed and registered to teach in the UK.
  • Experience leading SENCO or SEND provision in primary settings.
  • Hold NASENCO or NPQ for SENCO where required.
  • Strong knowledge of EHCPs, SEND legislation and Code of Practice.
  • Experience collaborating with families, staff and external agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school.
  • Oversee identification, assessment and support for pupils with additional needs.
  • Coordinate EHCPs and SEN Support plans.
  • Ensure effective interventions and support strategies.
  • Monitor progress and outcomes for pupils with SEND.
  • Provide guidance to teachers and support staff on SEND practice.
  • Liaise with parents, SLT and external professionals.
  • Ensure SEND provision meets statutory requirements.
  • Support development of specialist SEND provision.
  • Maintain accurate SEND records and reporting.
  • Champion inclusive practice and positive SEND outcomes.

Job description

Bright Star Talent is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced and passionate SENCO to join a large, inclusive primary school in Lozells, Birmingham.

The school has approximately 670 pupils and was rated Good by Ofsted at its most recent graded inspection.

SEND is a significant part of the school's provision, with approximately 13.5% of pupils receiving SEN Support and a further 3.3% supported through an EHCP. The school also has established specialist SEND provision, supporting pupils with needs including Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Autism (ASD).

This is a dedicated SENCO position with no class teaching responsibilities, allowing the successful candidate to focus fully on leading, developing and coordinating SEND provision across the school.

The Role
  • Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment and support of pupils with additional needs.
  • Coordinate, monitor and review EHCPs and SEN Support plans.
  • Ensure appropriate interventions and support strategies are in place.
  • Monitor the progress and outcomes of pupils with SEND.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers and support staff around effective SEND practice.
  • Work closely with parents/carers, senior leadership and external professionals.
  • Liaise with external agencies and local authority services where appropriate.
  • Ensure SEND provision meets statutory requirements and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Support the continued development of the school's specialist SEND provision.
  • Maintain accurate SEND records and contribute to relevant reporting and reviews.
  • Champion inclusive practice and positive outcomes for pupils with additional needs.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has previous SENCO or SEND leadership experience, ideally within a primary setting.
  • Hold the NASENCO or NPQ for SENCO, where required.
  • Has a strong understanding of EHCPs, SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Has experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.
  • Is confident working with families, staff, external agencies and senior leadership.
  • Has excellent organisation, communication and leadership skills.
  • Is passionate about inclusive education and improving outcomes for children with SEND.
Compliance Requirements
  • Hold a fully Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
  • Provide satisfactory employment references.
  • Complete all required safeguarding and compliance checks prior to starting.
  • Provide evidence of relevant qualifications and right to work in the UK.
  • Complete Bright Star Talent's full registration and vetting process.
