Job summary

The Berkeley Scott Group is recruiting an Education Chef in Romford to join a school kitchen on a term-time, weekday basis. This role offers weekday work, a strong work‑life balance, and potential for long‑term or permanent placement.

You will assist in preparing nutritious meals for students and staff, support menu planning, maintain strict hygiene, monitor stock, and supervise kitchen assistants while ensuring all food safety regulations are followed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience as a Chef in catering.
• Experience in education catering is highly desirable.
• DBS or willingness to obtain one.
• Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship).

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing nutritious meals for students and staff.
• Support Head Chef with menu planning and kitchen operations.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with orders.
• Supervise kitchen assistants during service.
• Ensure compliance with food safety and health & safety regulations.
• Help deliver an efficient and high-quality catering service.

What You'll Be Doing

• Assisting in the preparation and cooking of nutritious, balanced meals for students and staff
• Supporting the Head Chef with menu planning and kitchen operations
• Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness
• Monitoring stock levels and assisting with orders
• Supervising and supporting kitchen assistants during service
• Ensuring compliance with all food safety and health & safety regulations
• Helping deliver an efficient and high-quality catering service

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 1 year's experience as a Chef
• Previous experience within education catering is highly desirable
• Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
• Right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available)
• Level 2 Food Safety and Allergens certificate
• Reliable, professional, and excellent communication skills
• A passion for preparing healthy and nutritious meals for children and young people

Pay rates are dependent on experience and the client site.
