Job summary

Berkeley Scott Limited in Romford is seeking an experienced Sous Chef for a temporary role in education catering. The position offers term-time weekday work with weekends off, promoting a strong work-life balance.

You will assist with cooking, support senior kitchen staff, and uphold high food safety and hygiene standards. Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of chef experience, preferably in education catering, and hold a Level 2 Food Safety and Allergens certificate with Enhanced DBS.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year’s experience as a chef.
• Experience in education catering is highly desirable.
• Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available).
• Level 2 Food Safety and Allergens certificate.
• Reliable, professional, and excellent communication skills.
• A passion for preparing healthy and nutritious meals for children and young people.
• Pay rates are dependent on experience and the client site.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation and cooking of nutritious meals for students and staff.
• Support the Head Chef with menu planning and kitchen operations.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with orders.
• Supervise and support kitchen assistants during service.
• Ensure compliance with all food safety and health regulations.
• Help deliver an efficient and high-quality catering service.
