Job summary

Worcestershire County Council in Worcester is seeking a proactive Highways & Transport Systems Development & Data Engineer to help deliver transport technology, data and infrastructure projects. You will lead a portfolio of real-time passenger information, smart ticketing, data platforms and home-to-school transport systems within the Transport Technology team.

The role requires strong project management, data analysis and stakeholder engagement skills to improve accessibility, sustainability

Qualifications

• Experience leading or delivering significant projects in transport, infrastructure, technical or digital environments.
• Strong understanding of technology systems, data analysis or digital service delivery.
• Confident project management with budgets, suppliers and contracts.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret complex information.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work in a political, customer-focused and fast-paced environment.
• Proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and service improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of systems such as real-time passenger information, smart ticketing, transport data platforms and wider public transport digital infrastructure.
• Support the development and enhancement of home-to-school transport systems and associated technologies.
• Manage the delivery of public transport infrastructure projects, including bus shelters, passenger information assets, interchange facilities and accessibility improvements.
• Manage project budgets, suppliers, contracts and system performance.
• Prepare business cases, project briefs and reports to support investment decisions and funding opportunities.
• Provide technical advice on emerging transport technologies, mobility solutions and system improvements.
• Work collaboratively with operators, suppliers, contractors, schools, partners and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Use data and intelligence to support evidence-based decision-making, performance monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Respond to enquiries and support customer-facing communications where required.
