Job summary

Staffordshire County Council is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Highways Development Management team, focusing on transport planning and detailed responses to planning applications. You will interact with Local Planning Authorities, conduct GIS analyses, and contribute to sustainable estate layouts.

Qualifications

• Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer or Graduate Civil Engineer with relevant transport planning experience
• Experience with planning applications and S278/S38
• Experience working with internal and external partners
• Experience with adoption of new streets and off-site improvements
• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and to timetables/budgets
• Full driving licence

Responsibilities

• Prepare and issue comments and recommendations on highway and transportation aspects of planning applications
• Audit Transport Assessments and Travel Plans using GIS and accessibility tools
• Lead pre‑application discussions with developers for sustainable estate layouts
• Attend LPA planning committee to defend responses as a statutory consultee
• Prepare and give evidence in appeals and court proceedings under planning acts
• Assist in implementing Development Plan Policies and Staffordshire Local Transport Plan
